Replicas of Native California
Material Cultures

 

The replicas were made by Outside Educators. The reproductions of Ohlone style material cultures are used in the cultural history programs.

 

Acorn processing tools
Stone mortar and pestle

Looped stirring stick for lifting hot cooking stones from the basket.

 

Tule duck decoy
The decoys were either covered with the skin and feathers of a duck or were painted with mineral pigments and feathers were tied to the tule body.

Coiled basket
The weavers are split sedge rhizomes and redbud. The foundation materials are willow stems.

 

Deer bone tools
Scapular bone saw, antler tine awl, ulna bone awl, metatarsal bone awl.

Women's clothing
Bark skirt (front) and brain tanned deer skin skirt (back). When it got cold, the rabbit skin blanket was draped over the shoulders.

 

Shells and seeds for necklaces.
Grey pine nuts, abalone, Washington clam, mussel, limpet and olivella.
